Are you ready to start seeing success on Pinterest?! Well my friend, you have come to the right place. This website is FULL of actionable guides on how to become a successful travel blogger (well, any blogger really) and today we are going over how to skyrocket your monthly viewers on Pinterest in 5 easy steps!
The beautiful thing about marketing your blog or shop on Pinterest is that it is a search engine, NOT a social media platform. This means, that you don’t have to wait until you have x amount of followers to start seeing success. You can start seeing results RIGHT AWAY.
Isn’t that exciting?!
Okay, enough of the fluff.. let’s drive right in!! 🙂
Step 1: Learn Basic SEO Skills That are Specific to Pinterest
Like I said before, Pinterest is not a social media platform, but a search engine. That means, that in order for your content to be seen, you need to let Pinterest know what your content is about!
And unfortunately, Pinterest does not have a ton of human employees sifting through your content making decisions, it is a computer! So, how do you communicate to a computer? By Search Engine Optimization (SEO). Let me give you some examples 🙂
Most people’s mistake is only using SEO tools when creating pins, but you need to make sure EVERYTHING about your profile is SEO friendly. Let’s go over a quick check list of all the things SEO should cover:
Is your name just your blog name? WRONG. Add some keywords in there!! For example, mine is, “My Perfect Itinerary | Travel Photography & Travel Itineraries.”
Does your description have a few long-tail keywords in there? If you don’t know what long-tail keywords are, they are multiple keywords strung together, at least a few words long. For example:
- BAD EXAMPLE: California Itinerary
- GOOD EXAMPLE: 7 Day California Road Trip Itinerary
Do your board covers have keywords in them? They should! If you are a travel blogger, you should not have a board that is titled California. It should be Titled something like:
- Travel to California
- California Travel Guides
- California Itineraries
SOMETHING that shows the Pinterest algorithm that you are travel focused!

Step 2: Make Sure your Rich Pins are Set Up
Rich Pins are something you 1000% need set up on your site.. NOW. If you are not sure you have them set up, it takes less than 5 minutes to do so! I have a quick and easy guide on how to set up Rich Pins in less than 5 minutes here!
- Apply for Rich Pins
- Add Metadata to your Site
- Create a click-worthy title & description on each blog post
This is seriously SO easy and will take you 5 minutes to do! Again, if you want to read this in more detail, be sure to check out my guide on setting up Rich Pins here!
Step 3: If you’re not growing, you’re dying! Make sure you are staying up to date with new trends / features!
Just like ANY platform, you need to keep up with content algorithm updates, trends and new features.
Yes, it’s exhausting, but I promise you Pinterest is the least exhausting of all the platforms you can market on. They do not do nearly as many features and algorithm changes, and they want people to see your content other than other extremely frustrating platforms…
Yes, I am talking to you Instagram!
Make sure you are creating fresh new pins (that is what Pinterest LOVES to see), upload your reels / Tik Toks to Pinterest, try idea pins (which are sort of like stories that don’t expire), and anything else Pinterest wants to throw at you!
They love to push new features, so make sure you try them out right when they launch them!

Step 4: If you’re not using Tailwind.. WHAT ARE YOU DOING?!
Tailwind is a third-party app that allows you to schedule and batch your pinning. This is the only third-party app that directly works with and is approved by Pinterest for automating pins.
If you have been using Pinterest for a while now, you know that Pinterest is time consuming AF. You can dedicate hours of your time to Pinterest and watch your monthly viewers skyrocket, but if you take a week off without pinning… you can see those monthly viewers drop just as fast as they rose!
That my friend, is why Tailwind will be your best friend.
You can spend about an hour per month (yes, PER MONTH) batching your pins. Tailwind allows you to create a schedule where you can choose pins in advance, set them to a schedule, and then it will automate your pinning for you.
And I know what you might be thinking… “Well Monique, I have plenty of time to pin a few pins per day. That way I can save money on the Tailwind Membership!”
Well young grasshopper… another great thing about scheduling on Tailwind is that there are peak times to be active on Pinterest. Depending on what time zone your audience is from and what niche you are in, you can schedule your pins to be pinned during your peak hours.
Lets say for example, my peak hours are around lunch times and when people are out of work. Well, I might have a best friends birthday dinner after work or I might be on a plane during lunch hours. Instead of missing out on those peak hours for pinning manually, I can automate my pinning on Pinterest!
Plus, wouldn’t you rather sit down and dedicate an hour or two to batching your pins for the month instead of logging on every single day to do it? I know I would!

Step 5: Stay up to date with Algorithm Updates!
Pinterest is constantly making small updates, which usually do not effect your Pinterest Strategy too much. Typically, if Pinterest makes a big algorithm change, you will know about it because your traffic will either drastically drop or drastically rise!
Again, they don’t make nearly as many algorithm changes as their annoying little sister..
Yes, I am talking about you again Instagram!
